- ألا أبلغ لديك أبا عقيلListen: tell Abu Aqil there with you:
- ألا من مبلغ عمرا رسولاOh, who will carry a message to ʿAmr?
- رحلت قتيلة عيرها قبل الضحىQutayla readied her caravan before midmorning.
- رشدت وأنعمت ابن عمرو وإنماYou have found guidance and fared well, son of Amr; indeed,
- كفى حزنا كري عليه كأنهMy returning to him is sorrow enough, as though he were
- لججت وكنت في الذكرى لجوجاI persisted, ever obstinate in remembrance,
- لقد نصحت لأقوام وقلت لهمI have indeed counseled people and said to them:
- لمن الديار غشيتها كالمهرقWhose are these dwellings I visited, like a parchment?
- هل أتى ابنتي عثمان أن أباهماHas the daughter of Uthman come to tell me
- وإن يك حقا يا خديجة فاعلميAnd if true, O Khadijah—then know—
- يا للرجال وصرف الدهر والقدرO men, behold the vicissitudes of time and fate!
- يعفو ويصفح لا يجزي بسيئةHe forgives and pardons, he does not repay evil
