ألا مَن مُبلغٌ عمراً رَسولا

ألا مَن مُبلغٌ عمراً رَسولا

فإني من مخافتهِ مُشيحُ

فإني من مخافتهِ مُشيحُ

Oh, who will carry a message to ʿAmr?

Oh, who will send 'Umar a message to warn him,

For fear of him, I am on my guard.

For I fear him greatly and am ready to depart.

أفرّ إلى بني ثعل بن عمرو

أفرّ إلى بني ثعل بن عمرو

وحولي من بني جَرمٍ نبوحُ

وحولي من بني جَرمٍ نبوحُ

I flee to the sons of Thuʿal ibn ʿAmr,

I will flee to the clan of Tha'lab ibn 'Amr,

And around me comes barking from the sons of Jarm.

Though the clan of Jaram surrounds me on every side.

أعوذُ بربِّ بيت الظلم منه

أعوذُ بربِّ بيت الظلم منه

وبالرحمن إذ شرقَ المسيحُ

وبالرحمن إذ شرقَ المسيحُ

I seek refuge from him with the Lord of the house of oppression,

I seek refuge with the Lord of the Sacred House from him,

And with the All-Merciful, when the Messiah choked.

And the Merciful One when the Messiah rises in the east.

تركتُ لكَ البلاد وماء بحري

تركتُ لكَ البلاد وماء بحري

لأنزح عنكَ لو نفعَ النزوحُ

لأنزح عنكَ لو نفعَ النزوحُ

I have left you the lands and the water of my sea,

I left the lands and waters behind for you,

To go far away from you—if going far away could help.

That I might move away from you, if moving away were of any use.
