You have found guidance and fared well, son of Amr; indeed,
You have guided and blessed Ibn 'Amr, and indeed
you have avoided a blazing furnace of fire,
You have kept him from a blazing fire.

وتركك أوثان الطواغي كما هيا
through your worship of a Lord whom no lord resembles,
With your religion - a Lord unlike any other -
and your forsaking the idols of false gods just as they were,
And your abandoning of pagan idols as they were.

and your attaining the faith that you had sought,
And your understanding of the religion you sought,
and you were not heedless of affirming your Lord's oneness.
Never heedless of your Lord's oneness.

So you are now in a dwelling whose lodging is noble,
So you awoke in an abode of honor,
where you are regaled with honor, carefree.
Where you are entertained generously with no boredom.

There you meet the Friend of God, and you were not
a tyrant among men, plunging into the Fire.
Of the people a tyrant, falling into the fire.

And a man may be overtaken by his Lord's mercy,
And a man may attain his Lord's mercy
even if he were seventy valleys beneath the earth.
Even if he were seventy valleys under the earth.

أقولُ إذا جاوزتُ أرضاً مخوفةً
حنانيكYour mercy, Your mercy! لاdo not تُظهرlet prevail عليّover me الأعادياthe enemies
حنانيك لا تُظهر عليّ الأعاديا
I say, whenever I cross a fearsome land:
I say, when I pass a fearful land,
Your mercy, Your mercy! Do not let the enemies prevail over me.
Your affection does not show the enemies to me.

Your mercy, Your mercy! The jinn were indeed their hope,
Your affection - the jinn had hoped for it,
while You, our Lord, are my God and my hope.
While You, my God, are our Lord and our hope.

I worship a Lord who answers, nor do I see fit
I worship a Lord who answers, and I do not see
to worship one who never hears a supplicant.
I worship one who never hears the centuriesʼ caller.

I say, whenever I pray in any church:
I say, whenever I prayed in any open country,
Blessed are You! I have turned toward You, invoking Your name.
Blessed are You Who has rewarded me for calling Your name.
