Poems
I yearn at the edges of day with ardent longing.
I would ransom you—but a lovesick man can scarcely ransom you.
By evening, traces of tears mark my cheek,
I am content with your prolonged shunning of me,
You are the beloved; the heart harbors no doubt
I wept, and the eye’s tears bring relief to the soul.
I gulped down bliss and misery from its two states—
I left the heart ailing, receiving visits.
You have engrossed my heart, turning it from the world and its delights.
Redouble the affliction upon me with all your might,
- فإن شئت واصلني وإن شئت لا تصلSo if you wish, keep your bond with me, and if you wish, do not;
I had a heart by which I lived.
- هبهنى وجدتك بالعلوم ووجدهاSuppose I found you through the sciences and their ecstasy;
My heart was empty before your love
And no good comes of complaining to anyone but the proper hearer of complaints.
And even if I were told, “Step into the fire,” knowing that it
And I have no share in anyone but you.
He reproaches me, and my inward tension eases.
