قوم يسرون ما يولون من حسن

Some folks seem ashamed when kindnesses they've shown,

شرف للشريف منك نوال

Honor to the noble one, your gift

سيبقى فيك ما يهدي لساني

There will remain in you what guides my tongue

وما كنتَ ممن أدرك المُلكَ بالمُنى

أظن الشام تشمت بالعراق

لو خلد الله محلوقا لنجدته

If God had immortalized a creature I would have helped him

وإذا جددت فكل شيء نافع

When you renew, all things become useful

ومن ذا الذي ترضى سجاياه كلها

فأحلف حلفة لا أتقيها

I swear an oath I do not fear to break

لعمرك ما يحصى على الكاس شرها

The wine cup's evil cannot be reckoned,

لا حزن إلا أراه دون ما أجد

No sadness but I see it less than what I find,

حتى إذا السرب انبرى فاجتهدا

Until the flock takes flight try harder

ألا مبلغ عني الأمير محمدا

O messenger, convey to me from the prince Muhammad

لم تزرني أبا عليّ سنو الـ

The years of drought have not visited me, O Abu Ali

نبئت كلبا هاب رميي له

I was told you're a dog who flees my throwing,

ما استشرف الناس عيدا مثل عيدهم

People have not looked forward to a celebration like their celebration

صبغت الرأس ختلا للغواني

I dyed my head with henna for the young ladies

إني لرحال إذا الهم برك

When cares afflict me, I take to the wilderness,

سقى الله مصرا خف أهلوه من مصر

God watered Egypt, its people left it lightly

سعيتم فأدركتم بصالح سعيكم

إن يعجز الدهر كفي عن جزائكم

ألا يا قوم قد برح الخفاء
