1. They asked what I wish for, I said: basic sustenance in a life of ease
With a belly that’s sometimes full, sometimes not, no riches or fancy clothes

2. A belly that when the poor man lies on the ground, you’d think
It's the finest bedding that a king lays down

3. I have a free woman, pious and virtuous
Who does no harm to neighbors or the faith she holds

4. Be I a falcon or hound, if I have strength and stamina
And if I'm frail, my feathers and fur are enough for me

5. Birds circling a tower, their wings like fox and lynx fur
Should guests arrive suddenly, I have for them

6. A pot with broth, seasoned well, that the pores soak up
In a house built not by ill-gotten gains

7. Where no ruler need be feared
I leave piety to the pious, and those who plot treachery can keep it

8. Oh home, time did not assist me in attaining you
I did not manage to live in you, traversing the sky

9. I wished for a life unknown to others
Except one wise in the sweetness of simple living
