- أبلغ حباشة أني غير تاركهTell Hubasha that I will not leave him
- إذا ما يهتدي لبي هدانيWhen my reason finds its way, it guides me.
- ألا ترين وقد قطعتني قطعاًDo you not see, though you have torn me to pieces,
- إن الخليط أجد البين فابتكرواThe companions made their parting final and set out at dawn,
- قالت أمامة يوم برقة واسطUmāmah said on the day at Burqat Wāsiṭ:
- لمن الديار عفون بالجزعWhose are the dwellings, effaced at the valley bend,
- نحن الفوارس يوم الشعب ضاحيةWe are the horsemen on the day of al-Shiʿb, in broad daylight,
- هجرت أمامة هجراً طويلاYou forsook Umamah for a long time,
- وجدت أبي فيهم وجدي كليهماI found my father and my grandfather among them, both
- ولقد غضبت لخندف ولقيسهاAnd indeed I grew angry for Khindif and her Qays,
- يا قومنا لا تسومونا التي كرهتO our people, do not subject us to what is loathed.
