ياO قومناour people لاdo not تسوموناyou subject us التيthat which كرهتwas loathed
يا قومنا لا تسومونا التي كرهت
إنindeed الكرامthe noble إذاwhen ماfor emphasis اكرهواthey are coerced غشمواthey act ruthlessly
إن الكرام إذا ما اكرهوا غشموا
O our people, do not subject us to what is loathed.
O people, do not force on us what we detest
For the noble, when coerced, act ruthlessly.
For the generous, if forced, become violent
لاdo not تظلموناyou wrong us ولاand do not تنسواyou forget قرابتناour kinship
لا تظلمونا ولا تنسوا قرابتنا
أطواdraw near, all of you إليناtoward us فقدماًfor, from of old تعطفstirs affection الرحمkinship
أطوا إلينا فقدماً تعطف الرحم
Do not wrong us, nor forget our kinship.
Do not wrong us or forget our kinship
Draw near to us, for kinship has long inspired affection.
Be kind to us, for kinship elicits tenderness
لاdo not ترجعنyou ever become أحاديثاًtales وتنتهكواand you violate
لا ترجعن أحاديثاً وتنتهكوا
مناamong us محارمناour sanctities قدindeed تُتَّقىare respected الحرمsacred things
منا محارمنا قد تُتَّقى الحرم
Do not become tales to be told, nor violate
Do not spread rumors or violate
our sanctities; sacred things are indeed to be respected.
What we hold sacred, for sanctity must be respected
ولاand let not يكنbe لكمfor you ياO قومناour people مثلاan example
ولا يكن لكم يا قومنا مثلا
فيماin what مضىhas passed منof زمانan age سالفbygone جلمJulam
فيما مضى من زمان سالف جلم
And let not your example be, O our people,
And people, do not take as an example
Julam of an age long past.
