Umāmah said on the day at Burqat Wāsiṭ:

O son of al-Ghadīr, you have indeed begun to change.

You have become, after your tender youth, whose

tightly twisted cord was unraveled while your branch was green,

an old man, a staff your support, and fainthearted,

seeking no news and making no inquiry.

So I answered her that whoever lives long acknowledges

what you have claimed, and his good looks desert him.

And indeed, I have seen the like of what you taunt me for

as time brings it upon you, morning after morning.

And now a child watches over me, and I have wearied

my family; once I was honored, never rebuked.

And I drank from the small wooden bowl, and was led

toward the gathering by the youngest of my sons.
