وَجَدتُ أَبي فيهِم وَجَدّي كِلَيهِما

وَجَدتُ أَبي فيهِم وَجَدّي كِلَيهِما

يُطاعُ وَيُؤتى أَمرُهُ وَهُوَ مُحتَبي

يُطاعُ وَيُؤتى أَمرُهُ وَهُوَ مُحتَبي

I found my father and my grandfather among them, both

I found my father in them, and my grandfather

Obeyed, each one's command carried out while he sat clasping his knees.

He is obeyed, and his command is fulfilled, while he remains secluded

فَلَم أَتَعَمَّل لِلسِيادَةِ فيهِمُ

فَلَم أَتَعَمَّل لِلسِيادَةِ فيهِمُ

وَلَكِن أَتَتني طائِعاً غَيرَ مُتعَبِ

وَلَكِن أَتَتني طائِعاً غَيرَ مُتعَبِ

So I did not toil for leadership among them,

So I did not strive for authority over them

But it came to me willingly, without toil.

Rather, it came to me willingly, without effort
