- أقول لنفسي مرةً بعد مرةٍI say to myself, time after time,
- أمن دون ليلى عوقتنا العوائقُHave obstacles held us back from Layla—
- بكيتُ لغرسانٍ وحق لناظريI wept for Gharsan, and my eye had every right
- تولت رجالي بالغنائم والغنىMy men departed with spoils and wealth,
- دعاني سيد الحيين مناThe lord of our two clans summoned me,
- عبرتُ بقومي البحر أنزفُ ماءهُI crossed the sea with my people, draining away its waters;
- فإن تسيروا إلينا ترفدوا عجلاًSo if you march toward us, you will swiftly receive
- لأفرجن اليوم كل الغممToday I shall surely dispel all sorrows
- لعمري لستُ أترك آل قوميBy my life, I will not abandon my people's kin,
- لم يبق يا ويحكُم إلا تلاقيهاThere remaineth not, alas for you! aught else but to meet it,
- وهل أنا إلا واحد من ربيعةٍAnd am I anything but one of Rabi‘ah?
