عبرة تسيل

Tears streaming down

مد الخليج

The Gulf stretches

حسب الخليع ملجا

The ignorant man sees the meadow as refuge,

ما العيد في حلة وطاق

What is this feast of fragrant scent

جنت مقل الغزلان

The gardens of gentle gazelles,

تأمل بفضلك يا واقفاً

With Your mercy behold, oh passerby

وموسدين على الأكف خدودهم

Leaning their cheeks upon their palms

لأتبعن الهوى

I will pursue desire

قلب مدله وفي الضلوع حريق

A languishing heart, and in my ribs there is burning,

سدلن ظلام الشعور

The darkness of feeling descended

هل ينفع الوجد أو يفيد

Does passion help, or is it of use?

لله ما صنع الغرام بقلبه

What love has done with his heart

رمت كبدي أخت السماك فأقصدت

My sister with an aim true as falcon's struck

ما للموله من سكره لا يفيق

What intoxication has the poet from his ecstasy that will not fade away!

يا من يذكرني بعهد أحبتي

O you who remind me of the covenant of my loved ones

إني نظرت إلى المرآة إذ جليت

مغنى خصيب وباب مرتج أبداً

ولي واحد مثل فرخ القطا

كل له هواك يطيب

نبه الصبح رقدة النائم

هل للعزا فيك سبيل
