لمن الظعن بالضحى طافيات

For whom are the gazelles wandering at dawn,

سرى ليلاً خيال من سليمى

A phantom from Sulaima passed by at night

بينا الفتى يسعى ويسعى له

While the young man strives and is being driven,

لا يمنعنك من بغاء الخير

Let not the tying of amulets bar you from seeking good

خليلي عوجا بارك الله فيكما

My friend, you who have strayed, may God bless you both,

أتتني لسان بني عامر

The tongues of the clan of Aamir came to me,

هل يرجعن لي لمتي إن خضبتها

Will my youthfulness return if I dye it

ما قلت هيج عينه لبكائها

What I said stirred her eyes to weep

وفيهن حور كمثل الظباء

In Paradise are maidens like sheltered gazelles,

هل تعرف الدار عفا رسمها

Do you know the abode whose ruins have faded?

أغالبك القلب اللجوج صبابة

My stubborn heart battles you with yearning

يا صاحبي تلوما لا تعجلا

هل بالديار أن تجيب صمم

ماذا وقوفي على ربع عفا

يا ذات أجوارنا قومي فحيينا

ألا بان جيراني ولست بعائف

أمن آل أسماء الطلول الدوارس

قل لأسماء أنجزي الميعادا

يجم جموم الحسي جاش مضيقه
