نافع بن الأسود

ألا رب نهب قد حويت وغارة

Oh Lord, plunder and looting have carried you off

اذهب فلا يبعدنك الله من رجل

Go, may Allah not take you far from a man

بنو تميم عتاد الحرب قد علموا

The tribe of Tamim, stalwart in war, are known

وسائل بني الماهات عنا وعنهم

The means of communication between us and them

وكم قد تركنا في دمشق وأرضها

And how much we left in Damascus and its land

لا تجد بالعطاء في غير حق

You will not find reward in giving unjustly,

دعانا إلى جرجان والري دونها

He invited us to Jurjan, though it was still far off,

ونحن قتلنا يزد جرد ببعجة

And we killed Yazd the coward in the morning

ولو أن قومي في الحروب أذلة

And if my people were humiliated in wars,

نحن صبحنا يوم دجلة أهلها

We woke up one day the people of the Tigris

لألوت بني العنقاء من رأس حالق

Had my people in wars been humiliated

لقد علمت فتيان عمرو بأنني

Surely the youths of 'Amr have known that I

وقال القضاة من معد وغيرها

The judges said, of Ma'add and others,

جزى الله خيرا من قبيل وناصر

May God reward the tribe and supporters

ألا هل أتاها أن بالري معشرا

ألا أبلغا عني عليا تحية

وأسلنا على المدائن خيلا

فنحن لعمري غير شك قرارنا

قومي أسيدان سألت ومعدن

وبالري إن مالت بنا أم جعفر
