- ألا أبلغ لديك أبا حميسٍHark, carry this message from me to Abu Humays:
- ألا لستم منا ولسنا إليكمTake heed: you are not of us, nor are we of you.
- إن امرأً بعدي تبدل نصركمIndeed, a man who, after me, chooses your support
- برج يؤثمني ويكفر نعمتيBurj accuses me of wrongdoing and denies my favors.
- بناة مكارم وأساة كلمBuilders of noble deeds and healers of wounds,
- جزى الله أفناء العشيرة كلهاMay Allah reward the nobles of the tribe, all of them
- خليلي لا تستعجلا أن تزوداMy two friends, do not hurry to take provisions,
- دفعناكُمُ بالحلم حتى بطرتُمُWe held you off with forbearance until you grew insolent,
- سيمنعُني من أن أسام دنيةI shall be kept from being subjected to humiliation
- فدى لبني عدي ركض ساقيMay my leg's spurring be a ransom for Banu ʿAdi,
- فلا تصفين الود من ليس أهلهSo do not bestow sincere affection on one unworthy of it.
- فما برحوا حتى رأى الله صبرهمSo they did not budge until God saw their steadfastness,
- قتلنا خمسة ورموا نُعيماWe killed five, and they shot Nuʿaym.
- ما كنت أحسب أن أمي علةI had not thought my mother was a co-wife,
- منازلنا بين الجريب إلى الملاOur dwellings lie between al-Jarib and al-Mala,
- وقافيةٍ غير إنسيةٍAnd many a rhyme not of human kind,
- يا أخوينا من أبينا وأمناO our two brothers, born of our father and our mother,
- يا أخوينا من أبينا وأمناO our two brothers, of our father and our mother,
