Take heed: you are not of us, nor are we of you.

We declare to you our disavowal of Luʾayy son of Ghālib.

We have remained amid the glory of the Hijaz, while you are

Where torrents meet in al-Baṭḥāʾ, between the Akhāshib mountains.

    تَبَيَّنتُ فيهِ أَنَّهُ قَولُ كاذِبِ

    I regretted a past statement that I had made;

I came to see that it was a liar’s utterance.

So would that my tongue had been two halves, one of them

Mute, and the other half where the stars run.

Our forefather is a Kinānī; his grave is in Mecca,

Where torrents meet in al-Baṭḥāʾ, between the Akhāshib mountains.

A quarter of the Sacred House is ours by inheritance,

And a quarter of al-Biṭāḥ near the house of Ibn Ḥāṭib.
