- ألسعد طي شجاعة الشجعانGood fortune lies within the valor of the brave,
- تحولت عن عيني إلى مضمر السرYou have moved from my sight to the secret’s hidden recess;
- تكدرت أن ألقى تهلل بشركمI grew troubled seeking the radiance of your welcome;
- خليلي بل أجل فأنت عنديMy friend, indeed you are more noble to me
- خليلي وإن قصرت والحق سيديMy friend—though I have fallen short, and in truth you are my lord—
- خليلي ولا أدعو سواك بمثلهاMy friend—and I call no one but you by that name,
- رب كأس تنقلت لحكيمMany a cup has made its way to Ḥakīm,
- صلى إلى جانبي غزالA gazelle prayed beside me.
- طال الهدى واعتز دين محمدGuidance has risen high, and Muhammad's faith grown mighty,
- من لم يرقه حلى رياشيWhoever has not been charmed by the adornments of my finery,
- وإن غيرتها الحادثات فإننيAnd though calamities have altered it, I
- وقطيع كان أفقا للطلاAnd a goblet that was a horizon for wine,
- ومحمرة تختال في ثوب سندسAnd a crimson bloom struts in a robe of fine silk,
- ومنظر رائق أنيقAnd a vista, pleasing and elegant,
