تحولت عن عيني إلى مضمر السر

You have turned away from my eyes to the hidden place of secrets

من لم يرقه حلى رياشي

He who is not drawn to the sweets of my scent

خليلي بل أجل فأنت عندي

My friend, indeed you are more noble to me

طال الهدى واعتز دين محمد

The guidance has lasted and Muhammad's religion has been honored

ومنظر رائق أنيق

A lovely and elegant landscape

خليلي وإن قصرت والحق سيدي

My friend, though I fall short, the truth is my master

صلى إلى جانبي غزال

A gazelle prayed beside me,

خليلي ولا أدعو سواك بمثلها

My friend I call no other by the like of her name,

ألسعد طي شجاعة الشجعان

The fortunate spread the courage of the brave

وقطيع كان أفقا للطلا

رب كأس تنقلت لحكيم

وإن غيرتها الحادثات فإنني

ومحمرة تختال في ثوب سندس

تكدرت أن ألقى تهلل بشركم
