- ألا هل لنا من بعد هذا التفرقAh, is there for us, after this parting,
- إن ابن زيدون على فضلهIndeed, Ibn Zaydun, for all his merit,
- أنا واللَه أصلح للمعاليI, by God, am more worthy of lofty rank.
- أنتَ الخصيبُ وهذه مصرYou are al-Khasib, and this is Egypt;
- ترقّب إذا جنّ الظلام زيارتيAwait my visit when darkness falls.
- لحاظُكم تجرحُنا في الحشاYour glances wound us in the heart.
- لو كنت تنصف في الهوى ما بينناIf you were fair in the love between us,
- ودّع الصبرَ محبّ ودّعكA lover who bade you farewell bade farewell to patience.
- ولقبت المسدس وهو نعتAnd you were dubbed 'the Sixfold'—an epithet
- يا أصبحي اِهنأ فكم نعمةO Asbahi, rejoice—for how many blessings
