أضاحك ضيفي قبل إنزال رحله

I make my guest smile before he packs his bags

فإن الرديني الأصم كعوبه

Roses are red, violets are blue

في ربرب يلق جم مدافعها

In a tumult, her defenders meet

اشربا ما شربتما فهذيل

Drink what you have drunk, O Hudhail

نعماني بشربة من طلاء

With a cup of paint

قفا نبك من ذكرى حبيب وأطلال

Stop and weep at the memory of a beloved one and the ruins

فنحن كررنا خلفكم إذ كررتم

So we repeated behind you when you repeated

طال الثواء عليها بالمدينة لا

Long did the desolation remain on it in the city;

فلله ساع بالمظالم بعدها

For God waits to avenge the wrongs done after,

كأنها بعدما مال الشريف بها

As if after the noble one inclined towards her

جئت الإمام بإسراع لأخبره

I came to the Imam quickly to inform him

ونكرم جارنا ما دام فينا

We honor our neighbor as long as we are able

فآنست بعدما مال الرقاد بنا

After sleep had turned us away,

لنا حية تنقض من رأس صخرة

We have a snake that darts out of the top of a rock

وذي لوثة منهى الرقاد بعينه

With a stains from sleeplessness in his eyes

ظللت مفترش الهلباء تشتمني

You slandered me, sprawled on the ground,

جزى الله خيرا منقرا من قبيلة

محاربيين حلوا بين ذاقنة

لما دعتني للسيادة منقر

ألم تر ما بيني وبين ابن عامر

ليس بيني وبين قيس عتاب

أجدك لا تلم ولا تزور

ألا طرقت أسماء وهي طروق

وقلت لعوف اقبلوا النصح ترشدوا
