1. You slandered me, sprawled on the ground,
In the presence of the Messenger, but you were not truthful nor correct.
١. ظَلَلتَ مُفترِش الهَلباء تَشتُمني
عِندَ الرَسولِ فَلَم تَصدُق وَلَم تُصِبِ
2. If you hate us, the Romans are your origins,
And the Romans cannot harbor hatred for the Arabs.
٢. إِن تُبغُضونا فَإِنَّ الرومَ أَصلُكُمُ
وَالرومُ لا تَملُكُ البَغضاءَ لِلعَرَبِ
3. For our roots are sound but your roots
Are deferred, at the origin of wonder and sin.
٣. فَإِن سُؤدُدَنا عَودُ وَسُؤدُدَكُم
مُؤَخَرٌ عِندَ أَصلِ العَجبِ وَالذَنَبِ
