قل للحصين لقد أصبت سعادة

Tell the valiant you have attained happiness

عجبت لأحداث البلاء وللدهر

I wondered at the turns of fate and time

ذكرت الصغير وأشياعه

I remembered the little one and his followers

طال ليلي وغير الدهر حالي

My night grew long, and fate has changed my state,

وما زالت الأقدار حتى قذفنني

The fates have continued until they flung me

قولوا ليحيى يستعد كتيبة

Tell Yahya to ready a battalion

لعمري لقد قام الأصم بخطبة

By my life! The deaf man has given a sermon

ولفوك أشنع حين تنطق فاغرا

When you speak with mouth agape, most ugly are you

ومسوم للموت يركب ردعه

And one destined for death rides its deterrence

تأن ولا تعجل علينا ابن معمر

Be patient, do not hurry against us, son of Ma`mar
