1. My night grew long, and fate has changed my state,
Assailing me with arrows of calamity.

2. Did fate divide us, O Qatari friend?
Tempting us with the tribulation of the Antichrist.

3. I see the servant of his Lord abandon truth,
So these two are in ruin and misguidance.

4. They kindled it against the wicked and said,
“This is the doing of Ubaydah son of Hilal!”

5. By my life! They did not allege of him
What he was, among their likes he is too few.

6. I am patient in the testing of war,
Discerning what befell me and my state.

7. Save that I did not contrive it through God’s will,
Nor did my reason solve it in disputation.

8. My eye was refreshed seeing the wicked destroyed,
And the demolishers attained what they never had.

9. The warrior Ibn Abi Safrah vied
With death when men were destroyed.

10. He stretched his legs for the fight of war
And stretched his hands for the spoils.

11. While my family lies discarded on the ground -
Goodness, where are my family?

12. If the warrior’s hand seizes them in war
Captives, I do not care.

13. Old age prevents him from them
And selling them is not lawful.

14. Whosoever the warrior leaves among the people,
Has reverence, glory and majesty.
