- بنفسي معرضة باخلهMy life as ransom for her who turns away, withholding!
- بنفسي والهيمان في الحسن يعذرBy my soul, infatuation with beauty may be excused;
- جسد قد نحلته للنحولA body I have given over to wasting,
- سرت ولواء الصبح قد كاد ينشرShe set out when the banner of dawn was almost unfurled,
- سلوا ساحر الأجفان ينعم بوعدهAsk the enchanter of eyelids to bestow his promise,
- طرقت لولا تبسمهاHer smile graced the gloom, else the wings of night had shrouded her.
- لو حان من كوكب الإسعاد إشراقHad light dawned from the star of good fortune,
- لولا الحياء من الرقيب الراصدWere it not for modesty before the vigilant watcher,
- متع جفوني بذاك المنظر الحسنDelight my eyelids with that beautiful sight.
- متى أبلغ من إقبالك الأملاWhen shall I attain my hope through your favor,
- نسيم الصبا عرج بأكناف نعمانThe morning breeze, pass by Na'man's abodes
- نكثت وحق لعهدها أن ينكثاShe broke her pledge, and her pledge deserved to be broken;
- يا نازحا وبأحناء الحشى سكناO you who migrate, and in the valleys of al-Hasha you resided
