- إخواننا شيعتنا لا تعتدواOur brothers, our partisans, do not transgress.
- أشهد بالله وآلائه وآلI bear witness by God and His bounties,

- أيدعونني شيخا وقد عشت حقبةDo they call me an old man, when I have lived for years
- أيشتمني عمرو ومروان ضلةDo Amr and Marwan revile me in folly,
- خلى طفيل علي الهم وانشعباTufayl left grief upon me and departed.
- رأتني فقالت أنت شيخ وإنماShe saw me and said, “You are old—and only
- صهر النبي بذاك الله أكرمهThe Prophet’s son-in-law—God honored him with that,
- فإن يك سيرها مصعبIf Mus‘ab has sent it on its way,
- لا در در الليالي كيف تضحكناMay no bounty flow from the nights! How we are made to laugh
- وإن لأهل الحق لا بد دولةAnd surely the people of truth must have their turn in power
- وحامت كنانة في حربهاAnd Kinanah stood firm in her war,
- وخليت سهما في الكنانة واحداAnd you left a single arrow in the quiver.
- ولما رأيت الباب قد حيل دونهAnd when I saw that access to the door had been blocked,
- ومستحلم بخشى اللحاق وقد تلاAnd a youth come of age fears being overtaken, lagging behind
