- تذكر عن شحط أميمة فارعوىHe remembered Umaymah from afar, then checked himself and came to his senses
- سأجزيكموا ما دمت حيا فإن أمتI shall repay you as long as I live; and if I die,
- شججنا خشرما في الرأس عشراWe gashed Khashram ten times on the head,
- عوجي علينا وآربعي يا فاطماTurn aside to us and linger, O Fatima,
- قد جعلت نفسي في أديمI set myself upon a hide—
- لا صلح حتى تذوق الموت صاحبةNo peace until a female companion tastes death,
- لم أر قوما مثلنا خير قومهمI have not seen a people like us, the best of people for their nation
- وإذا معد أوقدت نيرانهاAnd when Maʿadd kindled its fires
- وقد أبرزت مني الحروب مجرباThe wars have proven my endurance
- وما ثنى رثيان منهم غضبىAnd Rathyan among them did not turn aside my wrath,
