- الدرع قد صارت شعاري فماThe coat of mail has become my inner garment, so I do not
- أمائلة الألحاظ عني إلى الأرضO you who turn your glances away from me toward the ground,
- أمستنصرا بالصبر قد دفن الصبرO seeker of aid through patience, patience has been buried
- خليلي صبرا راحة الحر في الصبرMy two friends, be patient: a free man's solace lies in patience.

- فما كان إلا ساعة ثم غودرواAnd it was but an hour, then they were left behind,
- قد طلبنا بثأرنا فقتلناWe have sought our blood vengeance and slain
- قل لعبد الله يشدد في الهربTell Abd Allah to hasten his flight.
- لا شيء أملح من ساق على عنقNothing is lovelier than a leg upon a neck,
- لسوار على الأعداء سيفSawwār has a sword against his enemies,
- يقول بنو الحمراء لو أن جنحناThe sons of al-Hamra say, 'If our wing
