- ألا أبلغ بني العجلان عنيTake heed: tell the sons of al-Ajlan on my behalf,
- ألا أبلغا هنداً سلامي وإِن نأتListen, you two: convey my greetings to Hind, though she is far away.
- ألا أن هنداً أصبحت عامريةBehold, Hind has become a woman of ʿĀmir,
- ألا إِن هنداً أصبحت منك محرماLo, Hind has indeed become forbidden to you in marriage;
- إن كنت ساقية ببزلIf you serve wine in exchange for full-grown
- إني لعمرك ما أخشى إِذا ذكرتIndeed, by your life, I do not fear, when mention is made
- إني وما مار بِالفريق وماIndeed, I swear by what stirred at al-Furayq, and what
- بكى فرثت له أجبال صبحHe wept, and the mountains of Subh pitied him.
- خلى يتامى كان يحسن أسوهمHe left behind orphans whom he used to tend so well,
- خليلي زورا قبل شحط النوى هندMy two friends, visit Hind before separation carries us far away,
- عاود عيني نصبها وغرورهWeariness and streaming tears have returned to my eye;
- فارقت هنداً طائعI left Hind of my own free will,
- قد طال شوقي وعادني طربِيLong has my yearning lasted, and my rapture has returned,
- لقد كنت ذا بأس شديد وهمةIndeed, I once possessed formidable valor and high resolve;
- وحقة مسك مِن نساء لبستهAnd many a woman—a casket of musk—I wrapped myself in
- وعبد كلال حاز كل عظيمةAnd ʿAbd Kulāl attained every great distinction
- وقالوا لن تنأل الدهر فقرAnd they said, "You will never know poverty,
- ولكنها ترمي القلوب إِذا رمتBut when she shoots, she strikes hearts
