- إذا ذكرت أمامة فرط حولٍWhenever Umāmah is mentioned, my self-possession deserts me;
- إما ترينا وقد خفت مجالسناIf you see us now that our gatherings have grown sparse,
- من يصل ناري بلا ذنب ولا ترةWhoever burns in my fire, without offense or blood-debt,
- وأنبئت أخوالي أرادوا نقيصتيAnd I was told my maternal uncles sought to bring me low
- وذي ضغن كففت النفس عنهAnd from one harboring rancor I restrained myself,
