- ألا فاعجل لبرجة بالصبوحCome—make haste to Burjah with the morning draught,
- إن أمسي لا أشتكي نصبي إلى أحدEven if I reach evening complaining of my weariness to no one,
- تعرض عبس دون بدر سفاهةʿAbs’s standing in Badr’s way is folly.
- قل للمثلم وابن هند بعدهTell al-Muthallam, and Ibn Hind after him:
- لما رأوني ووجه برجةWhen they saw me and Burja’s face and al-
- من مبلغ عني المثلم آيةWho will convey a message from me to al-Muthallam
- وإني لأقري الضيف في ليلة الندىAnd indeed I feed the guest on a dewy night,
- ومازلت أجري كاملا وأكرهAnd I kept Kamil galloping and urging him to charge
