1. May Allah heal your aching head
May Allah mend your broken heart

2. May Allah dry your flowing tears
And make your enviers cry instead

3. Time wears out every robe and tries
Eagerly to make the tear yet wider

4. In this life, nothing lasts or stays
All things fade quickly, nothing abides

5. Many a high one became brought low
Many a low one was raised on high

6. All things must happen as they must
Time knows no turning back, no return

7. If so, man wrongs himself in vain
To seek what he cannot attain

8. If we willed a thing time did not will
We willed the impossible, in vain

9. If time willed what we did not desire
Who then could thwart the time's decree?

10. Time conquers all, what power have we
To make time bend to our desire?

11. We and plants are on the same level
Save that autumn follows after spring

12. Naught but acceptance of our fate
Conquers what time beyond us brings

13. Men's tongues still wag but few men's words
Are listened to or make impact

14. How odd that mere flesh in a mouth
Seeks currency and wide outreach

15. Who can control it? Who can bar
Ears from hearing things bizarre?

16. The ear hears all, the mind knows well
To truth, not all said, it gives ear

17. Some mouths spew nonsense, others wise
And meaningful words that teach and inspire

18. Things revert to their origin
As if impelled, back to their source

19. To some, no accounts I render
Yet I fear the crowd and its force

20. Let all things brush past you, for men
Are wont to impose thus on kings

21. Exceptional merit dulls in hosts
Of enviers, while no man envies the low

22. The rose was blamed in its time yet
Its worth held high, esteemed, sublime

23. It was blamed by those who blame
Yet blame could not make its beauty decline
