1. Your burial place is watered by the tears of my eyelids
O branch that was vibrant but did not grow

2. You are the branch that grew but did not flourish
As if you were not one of the branches

3. Time has broken your fresh, moist trunk
Such is the way of fledglings

4. They planted you in soil, hoping you would live by it
And watered you with a torrent of burning tears

5. But those tears were scalding
Such are the tears of sorrows

6. So you withered a second time withering
Seeking excess brings loss

7. We shall cry for you, then water your grave with our tears
Since we no longer fear loss

8. Maybe we will moisten at least the soil with it
And on it grow branches of sweet basil

9. So it would hint that beneath it
Is one similar in tenderness and leaning

10. One that would lean when the winds blow
Like a crying, heart-broken, helpless lover

11. Its leaves would rustle the rustle of a
Suffering or lovelorn, infatuated man

12. Exuding from it fragrant scents
Of trailing robes and flower necklaces

13. So when a youth passes by, impressed
He recites to you the greeting of brotherhood

14. And its roots would reach you and return in
Its branches revived in a different way

15. You would return as a branch as you were
In this life in the world of beasts

16. And return as a vibrant, joyful flower
As you were in the world of humans

17. Exuding from you fragrant scents
Hinting of the beautiful meanings in you

18. And your beautiful sight and smiling mouth would return
Like necklaces of peridot

19. But enough of this talk for it
Makes hearts flare without firewood

20. And increases sorrows, but anguish
Could not withstand an increase in sorrows

21. You left your mother in agony
And lament that dispelled any joy

22. If only you heard them when fate drew near
Crying in anguish and wailing in grief

23. Crying for you whom fate took
Before the tender youth could ripen

24. At nine fate hastened you, so they wept for you
A duration that cannot be measured by time

25. If you were counted among the boys in age
You were not among the boys

26. You were an elder in mind, so time
Came to you with proof in this

27. It erred and thought you one of them in years and how
Many errors for this unjust, betraying time

28. They gave you the name As-Saffa for your firmness
But you became firm in the transient tomb

29. You became a boulder in it, without hearing or
Sight, your soul and eyes ransomed you

30. You disappointed what they hoped of you and disappointing
And failing were never your trait

31. Blessings to the likes of you, for you left
Free of the sin of heart, deed or tongue

32. And you left the deceitful world hastily
To meet your Maker under the Guardianship of the Most Merciful
