1. My patience and passion are defeated
And sorrow alone defeats this passion

2. Illness has overcome my passion until
My heart became a battlefield for every warrior

3. Armies in it emerged, each
Stabbing with spears, shooting arrows, striking

4. The illness overcame me by siding with it
And if passion recoiled, it is not fleeing

5. I did not say it fled, and who am I for this
It is folding the heart, a blow with no opponent

6. Except I divided my heart so illness
Was on one side, and my passion on the other

7. And I supported sorrow against my passion
Not to comfort it, but each has its place

8. Whenever my heart sighs, my
Mind says wait, for you are not its companion

9. All that is not difficult for the self
Is easy if the difficulties are near

10. And may Allah make me and
Many others think this guess is false

11. And if it is not, my excuse stands
That I have done what is required

12. And separation will be the beginning
Of an eternal separation that has no equal

13. Yet I see a dawn for Layla
That may be truthful, not lying

14. Nothing prevents this, nor is there one
Who errs yet is successful with mistakes

15. And if there is, what of one who
Like this wakes and sleeps lamenting

16. How can one be cured who always sees death
And its ravens caressing him

17. He feared his death so died of
Fear - so trust, obey, and endure

18. Trust your innocence, obey medicine
And cure, and combat its symptoms with trials

19. And before all that, rely on Allah
And trust that He for this creation is Watchful

20. So if after this no cure is
Possible, you hope for miracles from Him

21. And through this your hope remains
Alive, while despair destroys the body

22. We thank Allah for what He has granted us
And we hope that He, Most Giving, will be generous

23. Allah has listened to us, He has not heard
A voice, for our voice in demands was loud

24. And if the sound of pleading hearts
Reaches His ears through the veils

25. Perhaps He will respond, and man in the
Present is foolishly unaware of the absent

26. And so perhaps He will prevent an evil
With another in nations and afflictions

27. And what we see as wrong
May later show its wisdom in the consequences
