1. Beauty commands, and lovers obey
No blame or trace of fault

By indulgence they were ordered so

Livers aflame with yearning

12. If he is absent, arrows of longing strike me
In nearness, fear, and in the cup's rim, peril

13. However long in love of your cheek the joy
Only from it hopes of meeting are short

14. Like spontaneity in the noble one's palm
How it wishes to resemble white and brown

15. Spontaneity flows through it giving it life
Beyond it no eloquence can be found

16. Who would deny that the lute in his hand
Flowers and bears fruit, this lute and its fruit

17. Or say, without honey there can be no bees
Their honey beyond it, no bees

18. Eloquent in word and meaning, should sources
Of beauty be troubled, no turbidness reaches them

19. Every rose its fragrance is sought
And from their roses no fragrance is sought

20. A relief for the spirits of souls' breaths
Upon a basil of intimacy, its scent dispersed

21. Many a cup has made me drink of its purity
Healthy, though lips and eyes have sipped it

22. Containing the sweetest qualities of wine
That please mind and sight

23. O you who obliged me with praise, does it contain
Because my seller in loyalty is excused?

24. A poem intended for me, so I was folded into it
Its verses, but by my life, I do not boast

25. If I boast, I claim superiority for myself yet for him
The essence of superiority with me is but trace

26. You are the noble one, named with a name befitting you
Your description cannot be encompassed except when summarized

27. I took the shortcut in describing you, and if I said
The noble one, it sufficed me, and that is enough
