1. You yearned, but do you have a yearner?
And when did you, remembering, quiver?

2. Remembering a people who came to me,
With crooked-time conversations,

3. So your heart quivers from remembering them
From ardour and ripened sorrow,

4. And their killing in the gardens of bliss
Is the honour of entry and exit,

5. Due to their patience under the banner’s shade,
The banner of the Messenger with curved staff,

6. On the morrow when the sons of Aws and Khazraj
Responded with their swords altogether,

7. And the adherents of Ahmad when they adhered
To the creed of light and method,

8. So they never ceased striking the tyrants
And travelled on in the well-paved road,

9. Thus until a King called them
To a garden, sanctuary of admission,

10. And so they all died free of tribulation
To God’s religion, unhesitating,

11. Like Hamzah when he fulfilled loyally
With the generous, brandishing, edged sword,

12. So the slave of Banu Nawfal met him
Braying like a trained camel,

13. And [Hamzah] dispatched him with a spear
That blazes in intensive flames,

14. And Nu’man fulfilled his covenant
And Hanzalah the benevolent was not hesitant

15. To the truth until his soul went
To an eminent, gilded residence,

16. They are the ones, not those of you
Who will stay, due to sins, in hell.
