Betrayed were they in their treachery,

لقد خزيت بغدرتها الحبور

1. Betrayed were they in their treachery,
Thus is the fate of time, ever does it veer,

١. لقد خَزِيَتْ بِغَدْرَتِها الحُبورُ
كذاكَ الدّهْرُ ذو صَرفٍ يَدُورُ

2. For they disbelieved in a mighty Lord,
Whose command is great, His order severe,

٢. وَذلِكَ أَنّهُمْ كَفَروا بِرَبٍّ
عزيزٍ أمْرُهُ أَمْرٌ كَبِيرٌ

3. Together endowed with reason and knowledge,
To them came a warner from God sincere,

٣. هكذا: وَقَدْ أُوتُوا مَعًا فَهْمًا وَعِلْمًا
وَجَاءَهُمْ مِنْ اللَّهِ النَّذِيرُ

4. A truthful warner who brought a scripture,
With clear verses to enlighten and steer,

٤. نذِيرٌ صَادِقٌ أَدَّى كِتَابًا
وَآيَاتٍ مُبَيَّنَةً تُنِيرُ

5. They said you've not come with truth or merit,
Rather you with denial are sincere,

٥. فَقَالُوا مَا أَتَيْتَ بِأَمْرِ صِدْقٍ
وَأَنْتَ بِمُنْكَرٍ مِنَّا جَدِيرُ

6. Nay I've come with the truth, said he,
Attested by the wise with wisdom and cheer,

٦. فَقَالَ بَلَى لَقَدْ أَدَّيْتُ حقّاً
يُصَدّقُني بهِ الفَهِمُ الخبيرُ

7. Whoever follows shall be guided aright,
While the denier shall be judged severe,

٧. فَمَن يَتْبَعْهُ يُهْدَ لِكُلِّ رُشدٍ
وَمَنْ يَكْفُرْ بهِ يُجْزَ الكفورُ

8. When with betrayal and denial they drank,
And from truth aversion did appear,

٨. فَلمّا أَشْربوا غَدْراً وَكفراً
وَحَادَ بِهمْ عَنِ الحقِّ النُّفُورُ

9. God saw the prophet with counsel so wise,
And God does judge, no judgement does He fear,

٩. أَرَى اللهُ النَّبيَّ برأيِ صِدْقٍ
وكانَ اللهُ يَحكُمُ لا يَجُوزُ

10. So He supported and aided gainst them,
As helper He was, pleasant and dear,

١٠. فَأَيَّدَهُ وَسَلَّفَهُ عَلَيْهِمُ
وكانَ نَصِيرُهُ نِعْمَ النّصِرُ

11. Betrayed was Ka'b, slain and languished,
After him the Nadir did fear,

١١. فَغُودِرَ منهُمُ كعبٌ صَرِيعاً
فَذلَّتْ بَعْدَ مصرَعِهِ النَّضِيرُ

12. With bloodied hands holding their swords,
At night by Muhammad's command sincere,

١٢. عَلَى الكَفَّيْنِ ثَمَّ وَقَدْ عَلَتْهُ
بأيدينَا مشَهَّرةٌ ذكورُ

13. To Ka'b the brother of Ka'b did steal,
Praiseworthy, brother of the valiant and fearless,

١٣. بأَمْرِ محمّدٍ إذْ دَسَّ ليلاً
إلى كَعْبٍ أَخَا كعبٍ يَسِيرُ

14. Thus are the Nadir, in an abode of woe,
With what they sinned, destroyed by the severe,

١٤. فَمَاكُرَهُ فأَنْزَلَهُ بمَكرٍ
وَمَحْمُودٌ أخو ثِقَةٍ جَسُورُ

15. At dawn he came to them, attacking with might,
Allah's messenger, to their plight aware,

١٥. فَتِلْكَ بَنُو النّضيرِ بِدَارِ سَوْءٍ
أَبَارَهُمُ بِمَا اجتَرَمُوا المُبيرُ

16. With him Ghassan the noble and staunch,
Against the foe, his minister aware,

١٦. غداةَ أتاهُمُ في الزّحْفِ رَهْواً
رسولُ اللهِ وَهْوَ بِهِمْ بَصيرُ

17. Sue for peace, he said, but they refused,
Their command was falsehood and lore,

١٧. وغسّانُ الحُمَةُ مُوازِرُهُ
على الأعداءِ وَهْوَ لَهُمْ وزيرُ

18. So they tasted bitterness and ruin,
A camel for every three was their share,

١٨. فَقَالَ السّلْمُ وَيْحَكُمُ فَصَدُّوا
وَحَالَفَ أمرَهُمْ كَذِبٌ وزورُ

19. Expelled they headed for Kaynuqa,
Lost were their palms and homes before,

١٩. فَذَاقُوا غِبَّ أمرِهمُ وَبَالاً
لِكُلِّ ثلاثةٍ مِنْهُمْ بعيرُ

٢٠. وأجلُوا عَامِدِينَ لِقَيْنَقَاعٍ
وَغُودِرَ مِنْهُمُ نَخْلٌ وَدُورُ
