1. The events of wars have left us a legacy
From the best honey of our Generous Lord

2. White and towering homes, and pastures
With trunks like monks, abundant with fruit

3. Offering their fill of milk freely like she-camels
To neighbor, cousin, and visitor alike

4. And bickering like racehorses well-fed
On barley and cut clover

5. Bared of saddle-bags, loaded at the withers
With blankets and all trappings

6. Led to the war cries if they march by night
Doing the work of darkness, barking like dogs

7. Shielding the abodes by night, and at times
Raiding the foe, returning with spoils

8. A herd of wild beasts when war calls
Baring their fangs, showing their claws

9. Fattened in leisure, grown fat
Light, fast fillies of excellent stock

10. They march out with double armor
And piercing blades unsheathed

11. With fine swords the scabbards stripped off
And all the noble war gear

12. They join the right hand with trusted comrades
And the command falls to an excellent leader

13. Noblest Blues in the battle line as though
Torches in the dark night

14. And a band denying quarters, though the enemy be many
Repulsing the stubborn fighters' thrusts

15. A sheltering flock, their spears like a forest
In each assembled group, on every hill

16. Seeking the shade of the banner as though
Under cover of the valley's wing, a vulture

17. They surpassed Aboo Karb and wearied Tubba'
While their heroism exhausted the nomads

18. And preaching from our Lord which we offer
In the finest adorned speech

19. Presented before us, which we were keen to hear
After it was presented to the factions

20. A wisdom the sinners in their recklessness
Deemed difficult, but clear to the wise

21. It came hot, that it might overcome its Lord
So let the Overcomer of all be overcome!
