1. O men, for a grievous matter I am saddened
I wonder at him who weeps over worldly wealth

2. I saw the slain master of the house persecuted
Uthman carried to graves in a shroud

3. O may God destroy a people whose act
Was killing the virtuous, good, gentle Imam

4. They did not kill him for a sin he committed
But for lies they told though no wrong he had done

5. They killed him and the Prophet's companions too
Had they not done what they did, we'd not experienced these trials

6. They killed him pure, no blemish in him
God bless the face of such beauty

7. He combined wisdom, piety and protection
With leadership - a feat none had achieved

8. Such was his view due to his kinship
He sought nothing of this world nor betrayed
