1. A questioner asks what we have encountered
And if a witness had seen us, she would have found us patient

2. We were patient, not seeing justice from God
Over what had befallen us, yet trusting in Him

3. And we had the Prophet as a minister of truth
With him we surmounted the wilderness altogether

4. We fight a group who did wrong and disbelieved
And they lay in wait for us with enmity

5. We confront them when they rise against us
With a blow that hastens the hasty ones among them

6. You see us in splendid interlinked coats of mail
Like the necks of statues, clad in attire

7. And in our right hands are shining white swords
With which we heal the wounds of the desirous ones

8. At the trench, it is as if there were a lioness
Whose cubs they protect within the den

9. When our horsemen set out at dawn and raced
Against the enemy, spears sincere

10. And the people of Mecca knew when they marched
And factions came, conspiring together

11. That God has no partner
And that God is the Protector of us believers

12. Either you kill Sa'd in foolishness
For God is Best of deciders

13. He will admit him into beautiful gardens
To be an abode for the righteous

14. Just as He has repelled you unsuccessful
To your fury, disappointments defeated

15. Disappointed, you attained no good
And you almost became destroyed

16. With a raging wind that blew against you
And you were beneath it, crumpled
