1. I disown my brother and his relation to me
If I find stinginess innate in his character.
١. وإِنِّي بَرِيءٌ مِنْ أَخِي وانْتِسَابِهِ
إِلَيَّ إذا أَلْفَيْتُ في طَبْعِهِ بُخْلا
2. If my soul is not generous by nature
And the nobility of forefathers is no virtue.
٢. فإنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ بالطّبْعِ نَفْسِي كَرِيمَةً
وإِنْ كَرُمَ الآباءُ لَمْ أَرَهُ فَضْلا
