1. It has winding alleys like creeping snakes
That hide their bodies in the ground as they crawl

2. Carts collide as they pass through
And the slender man jostles with a donkey

3. How many unharmed men have returned wounded, and how many
Children were trampled to death, while others escaped

4. He was brought down into a pit
Filled with rotten water that had fermented

5. The pedestrian ascends and descends in his walk
And everywhere is a rugged road that tears off nails

6. Whether you rode or walked briskly
It is a gloomy, sorrowful journey that brings misery and hardship

7. Goodness has departed from it while evil resides in it
Distress has descended and settled down

8. It has no merit other than its inhabitants
Fearing depravity and avoiding burdens

9. It contains countless mangy dogs
That bark at visitors and strangers

10. Sometimes scuffling with broken pots
Sometimes chasing away frightened horsemen

11. Lice have filled their bodies, so their skin
Itches as they scratch themselves on the walls

12. Does not living there seem a tremendous misery
When dogs gnaw at a man and he is helpless?

13. So reflect on the difference between this and that
And shed plentiful tears in sorrow
