Except when a stranger resorts to a guide

2. In vain he squanders his money and time
Who traveled as a tourist like one misled

11. Gas glows, steam harnessed
Lightning hints, and wires are on the way

12. People celebrate, cars race
The air laughs, and trains scream

13. News pages convey to the elite
Accounts of people through tales and sayings

14. Institutes of literature excel in knowledge
Guiding every noble man of merit

15. Of every splendid ingenious type
With sublime ideas and morals fair

16. An ambition grew within aspiring
To the orbit of pride with great effort

17. It inspired determination from the sheen of the past
Heading toward mighty goals

18. Roads paved, houses plentiful
Flowers plentiful, gardens teeming, soil fertile

19. Streams flowing, life burgeoning
Its lamps sing from its pages

20. And its winds rouse it with a gentle breeze
So it has adorned itself, flourished and glittered

21. Like Eden’s gardens near the Nile
Its mornings and winters are like

22. Spring in the orchards or the islands
And likewise Sudan was given its renaissance

23. After ignorance had destroyed it long ago
It flowed on the Nile’s bank determined

24. To make up for what was missed for so long
The first signs of its glory and growth appeared

25. The horizons of that humbled people cleared
You look to Joseph becoming victorious

26. Gaining all he hopes for in a short time
Occupying peaks of towering glory

27. In the fortress of eternal glory
The British, their dictionary lacks

28. Our word "impossible," we Arabs
And so today you need, more than anything

29. To buy a book they titled "The Guide"
A book that's a treasure in its subject

30. Containing all riches, matchless
