1. He is the King whose armies are built by victories,
And from him the banners appear atop the flags.

2. There is no glory except from a sword and a flag,
Nor right except what is protected by sharp blades.

3. There is no hoped for or feared state except for that
Whose pillars are its army and navy.

4. There is no supremacy except by cannons, tumult,
Lightning strikes, thunderclaps and clouds.

5. By it treachery is repelled when the regiments engage
And the fires of war blaze.

6. It bombards with shrapnel while it is shrapnel
Whose missiles sow havoc and plunder.

7. When it is scattered among the soldiers it scatters
Their limbs drenched in blood and skulls.

8. So the greatest army is the one whose bulk is smallest
And on the day of battle seems trivial.

9. With the mouths of beasts they charge the enemy
And in the melee there is ferocity and accumulation.

10. It exchanges the discard with it being itself discard
Its missiles in it are calamity and pouring.

11. When its regiments walk, regiment after regiment
And its banners are flocks of circling birds.

12. And if it returns victorious after warding off and marching
It strews flowers upon it, prime of womanhood.

13. From the bravest of peoples, succor is expected
And from the noblest of banners, spoils hoped for.

14. Indeed God's army has been the greatest force
With which the untethered steeds dash.

15. From the day of Hunayn and nascent victory
To the incident of Yarmouk and triumph in end.

16. On the land of Syria its ranks converged
And Caesar bewildered and forlorn.

17. Hold your ode, my prowess fails me,
And the swords have humbled the tall pillars.

18. Whence is one such as I to recount its openings
And the eras upon it are as if markings.

19. O army, your march was in India
With glimpses of you in China and Japan.

20. For the sake of guidance you fought wars until
Your spoils upon people were but noble deeds.

21. You would only return triumphant and its writ
A dawn for the darkening of misguidance routed.

22. Its events in every land and nation
In peace are as its holidays and seasons.

23. And in every land its people came upon guidance
The hooves of Arabian steeds and markings.

24. Its days in Rome and Persia were but
Miracles sent down by The All-Determining.

25. And its days after them amongst the Turks and India
And in China of which landmarks stand evidence.

26. Its days tied to the Berbers reached unto
The Goths, Franks - those resolutes.

27. Its commanders likened to minor deities
Are prided by people with no rivals to contest.

28. They surpassed all nations' commanders
As lions surpass the beasts in boldness altogether.

29. They were titans, their swords when unsheathed -
The cosmos quakes in awe of them.

30. The least of them, if to victory said "Be," it becomes,
And to fate an obedient, facile servant.

31. The vanguards of its horses emerged upon the world
So none survived except a Muslim or dhimmi.

32. With the sword of truth they established Muhammad’s faith
And corrected what injustices had contorted.

33. They returned and the remnants of their defeated foes
For glory is but to crush the measure.

34. With their souls they were generous, and their swords
With their steel - until intentions were sincere.

35. Thrones collapsed, trampled by their successors
And their crowns among kings as turbans.

36. Never did they set borders for their kingdom
And in every conquest a sweeping assemblage.

37. The terrain of countries and plains were trampled
By the hooves of those steeds and they the smooth pebbles.

38. To them belonged the seals of sovereignty and blessing
And their stamping shook the world with ferocity and accumulation.

39. Their banners rose so nations looked expectantly to them
The guiding stars above the earth exalted.

40. And through them for all noble traits are templates -
An Arabic banner emerged for some good.

41. It revived long shadows above which death squat.
Its shade encompassed the people so smiles were drawn.

42. And through it came moisture, fertility, justice and guidance
So it covered all the world's realms of compassion.

43. Its justice threw tranquility and awe
So no oppressed was deprived nor oppressor won.

44. The creation wept when its shade narrowed
And the rancorous rose from the bellicose.

45. O army small of size, do you take example
From its tail that army great and dispersed?

46. So you become with days an army vast
And numerous enemy limbs as spoils proliferate.

47. For you is the glory and praise in defeating a legion
Whose tears your flashing blades did shatter.

48. With your brown and white steeds you met them
And employed none but biting sword tips.

49. You walked upon the enemy's skull multiplying
While you are few - your matter one of magnification.

50. Thus water we find in a pool then stream
Then river then sea its billows clashing.

51. So bolster the most guiding of banners
As you the one firm and confronting.

52. When an nation’s banners become mighty
Its subjects beneath it and judicature are empowered.

53. For no banner flutters except as a symbol
And the hearts of its people as amulets.

54. By my soul and family an Arabic banner
Its victory named in battles grim.

55. If above a troop it flutters, it flutters
As doves above branches coo.

56. In peace and war it dominates for it to bow
Like ears in a meadow bowed by soft winds.

57. The chosen prophet loved and preferred it
And Gabriel wove it with The Lord as its designer

58. I see in it converged the fairest of colors
To collect glories built by the greatest.

59. So its blackness became in calamities as armor
And its green - the joyous, swelling hopes.

60. And the whiteness of hands seek from its whiteness
And its redness might from the lasting kingdom.

61. For it a bright unblemished white of the dawn of Eid
And from the night of ascension - deep pitch black.

62. From the verdure of gardens - lively lush green
And from the martyred scion - crimson and dyeing.

63. By it I would sacrifice, O brother of Arabs of him
From his enemies are rulers and judges.

64. Unlawful to you are comfort, fragrance and bliss
If you do not confront the foe and contend.

65. Your inheritance is plundered, lineage dispersed
Sword fractured and progeny barren.

66. Ponder over and compare a past and present
And on you for prohibition’s deterrence are blamers.

67. For when a soldier you ruled creation
And combatted aggressor with zeal and determination.

68. But when still on tumults, dignity you missed
For it the stigma of the unarmed and a ladder of insults.

69. If for a people are no army, state
Or freedom - anxiety of shackling strictures seized its vigor.

70. So it was of feeble future and will, despairing
And qualities rent asunder by ruinous events.

71. Enlist and be a bristling warrior
For by the arms of a soldier lies a kingdom’s continuity.

72. And they who arms have not disciplined die debased by them
Subdued the nose of the honorless, against desire forced down.

73. For no glory except by a soldiery that became
Like a duty prescribed and duty binding.

74. Who from it is not - his nation’s ancestry not from
And cowardly of a people are disgraced and silent.

75. Be honored at a bier to a grave dug
Than spears - not mourned by keening griefs.

76. But that dead of a nation for which is pride
In a death wherein lived all dignities.

77. Fortify arms of old that intimidate the foe
And seek the truth - the sword and judge.

78. Spy upon treacherous brigands lying in ambush
Their daggers seeping from which are bloody crimes.

79. Daringly meet the robber brazen with daggers
Who consumes provisions and the innocent's fasting.

80. If said peace is fairest to a youth
Beware for predators sleep while prey awake.

81. Beware its deception with no peace with the aggressor determined on violence
Woe, woe with fire mocking the thickets

82. Upon an Arab disparaged by foreigners.
When will days render Shahin valorous

83. To grace him after clanging cavalries?
His arsenal on a day of hardship is a cannon

84. That rebukes his cowardice to sword and spear's insult.
No benefit in courage or aid

85. When lost in the abyss are Imru’ al-Qais and Hatim.
An oath upon all of Arabs' sons

86. And noble women gave birth to them
An oath by The Exalted that they keep from their forefathers

87. Deposits that free souls and dignities redeem.
So if for truth they are angry one day, it blazes

88. Swords in the clutch of avengers themselves as swords.
And if their steeds ascend the windswept desert

89. Arabian horses outracing the ends of abysses.
Thus they fulfill grandeur’s entitlements

90. And their blades - those valleys’ torrents.
