Expectations on promises have been long

5. By which the ambitions of the masses are smeared
When we say: when will it be fulfilled? You say

6. Beware the hidden king's armies
We became lions in chains

7. On this cunning fox
And we said: We are helpless, have mercy on us

8. And do not be stained with innocent blood
So you directed your cannons at us

9. To shower us with all kinds of fragments
And our money was used to buy

10. Every brave, glorious hero
You are armed while leaving no weapon

11. For a people who have become targets of shooting
Had we been equal and had reconciled

12. We would have done justice between the genuine and the pretender
So nothing broke the weapons but a weapon

13. That equals it in a covert plan
We are not inferior to you in courage and might

14. And our vulnerability encourages the ambitious
But the shells and shrapnel

15. Protected you from the fangs of the swords
With hundreds we face thousands of you

16. And we have no one but the brave hero
You claimed to be supporters of justice

17. Saving the weak from the strong
And in your actions, lies belied the words

18. That scorned the bloody wound the next day
We do you justice and bear every injustice

19. So we bring offerings and guidance
And we support you while you are hostile to us

20. So we get deceived by the deceitful one
And on the day of peace you take revenge on us

21. Is that the reward of the loyal one?
So we lie in ambush for you to get strong

22. And force the arrogant one’s nose
We will suffer, harboring hatred for times

23. In which the despicable triumphed over the noble
Either we take revenge

24. And prevail over every free man
Or we fight you until we perish

25. Without sorrow for the lowly life
For death in glory and honor

26. Is more beloved to the high-minded than the debased life
The East’s swords are bared and unsheathed

27. The most resolute being the swords of the people of Muhammad
The red death left no sword

28. Or spear for its most audacious
Is there any hope for the people of the East

29. With the help of the patroness of the Far East?
So every oppressed and poor one thanks

30. The generous and high-minded for the help
It is Japan rising to great heights

31. With the rising of the banner of the brilliant sun
It has in the sea a fleet with moorings

32. Like branches of a grape plant
Its battleships on the waves anchor

33. Citadels in the dawns and evenings
And its armies are too narrow for the land

34. In which is every impetuous, highbred one
Its regiments are clouds wherein

35. Lightning warned with loud noise
The noblemen and commanders walked in it

36. To conquer an arrogant tyrant
So they left him no sublime flag

37. Or an impregnable fortress for rising
Then the East rose up after the drunkenness of ages

38. To the cry of that honest people
And the West was confused in obvious support

39. Of the passionate, majestic imperial army
And the Romans spent the night in anxiety and fright

40. Of the echo of the death sound
Had it not been for their might, they would have entered Damascus

41. After unfairness had ruled the reverent
O people of the East, do not sleep

42. For your enemy is fully armed
And be one nation on the day of mutual support

43. Against nations from the misguided West
And after it make them nations in solidarity

44. As the righteous have sympathy for the righteous
If only the Indians had all marched together

45. To a day rougher than Armargeddon
The British would have collapsed thereby and their ordeals

46. Would have reached the severity of beating
But intrigues divided us

47. So we became like arrows without feathers
We submitted to the steel of the cannons

48. So our master is more disgraced than a eunuch
And the weakness of determination and character led

49. To the killing of thousands at the hands of a strong few
So the weakness of the people is from the fading of merits

50. And from the loss of moral weaponry
And in the sincerity of determination every hardship

51. Becomes easy for the brave and delighted
The self-sacrificing welcomes death

52. And rushes into it with Antarah’s might
So there is no excuse for one rendered armless who complains

53. Saying: I fear the might of cannons
The strength of souls is beyond the strength of weapons

54. That are prepared to oversee the European
For if souls had wings

55. We would have broken the cannons with sticks
From the European no decency is expected

56. So guard the fairness of the shy face
Either it is war to get rights

57. Or peace with fair judgment
They rule a people

58. Barefoot in flimsy dwellings
So woe to me for the wretched Easterner

59. And the people of the West living comfortably
The ignorant one wasted religion and life

60. And did not remain except as one who is harmed and humiliated
So betrayal and disregard spread

61. Spared by the eyes from seeing
O children of Araby, have

62. Your consciences reproached you after the call?
Around the Supreme Kaaba are stars

63. That watch you from the dark night
Change altogether into Arabs and defend

64. The upright Hanifite religion of Ahmad
And die for the king and Islam

65. For truth like our master Ali
And preserve the best inheritance and follow

66. The upright, rightly-guided path
And with the fleet and army gain might

67. To protect the kingdom from alien harm
Abandon the past and establish a foundation

68. For a palace of the marble Umayyad
So your unity is composed into a unique necklace

69. That shows the cleverness of the jeweler
Your caliph encompasses the world, so his turban was adorned

70. With a crown like Chosroes’
You inherited the kingdom of Ghassan and Nizar

71. And Himyar of the magnificent Tubba
And you added to it the kingdom of Dara

72. And Caesar and Pharoah the Protected
The glory of Dhul Qarnayn was only

73. Insignificant compared to Arab glory
Their homes are places for Romans’ mischief

74. While they are safe and sound from it
You have its thorns and they have its fruit

75. If only they would be deprived at harvest time!
You have had the patience of Ayyub

76. With them after tolerance like the Haneefs
So they did not know patience and forbearance from you

77. Can rain be expected from a non-Arab cloud?
The worst enemies of yours are from you, so ordeals

78. Befell the Abbasids due to Ibn Al-Alqami
And the state of Andalusia was torn by factions

79. And chaotic rule
Deceit, which is a disease, will not be cured

80. Except by a sharp Muhaalabi sword
Saladin died, so is there anyone called

81. To conquer them with the might of As-Samit?
Then the East becomes independent

82. With the Abbasid Caliphate uniting it
And it takes a strong resolve

83. With the glow of a Khalid’s sword
In a night of passion the revelation came upon me

84. So poetry flowed profusely in my suffering chest
With it I was resolved regarding my people while my eyes

85. Preserve the remainder of flowing tears
Had I neglected the freeman’s tears for an instant

86. Over distress, they would have been like tattoos
Oh, most delightful is the beautiful night!

87. Its blossoms are like varieties of jewelry
I could not sleep and my sleeplessness pleased me

88. Intoxicated by the eternal beauty
I did not stay up for beauty or cattle

89. Nor passionate for Zaynab’s charm
But anticipation kept me awake

90. To bear the load of one buried alive
My mind completely on my people’s affairs

91. And corrupt pleasures did not tempt me
If I achieved my desire, I would relieve anguish

92. And if not, then peace be upon the wretched!
Thereupon, I stayed up watching the stars, restless

93. Examining them with the eye of a Babylonian
Perhaps I may be guided from the secret of my soul

94. To the secret of primal existence
And when I fell asleep I saw an apparition

95. Greet me with a pearl smile
So fragrance emanated from it and from a veil

96. Fluttering over a fur coat
Jewels glittered in it until

97. I saw the luminous horizon’s stars
The best of those who wore a belt shone

98. Elevated from liquefied Kauthar
She said, her smile greeting me:

99. “Peace upon the one whose hair is like black fur”
“I descended to you from the gardens of Eden

100. So rejoice, O pure soul, in Eternal Bliss
And take from it vitality and resolve

101. And ease your grieving heart”
“You gained the greatest success as a reward

102. For what you were endowed with of pleasing character”
“The likes of you makes a people proud

103. If they boast of a highborn, refined one”
“You belong to the Arabs, and you are righteous

104. O excellent brother of guidance among Arabs!”
So I prostrated before her, saying: “Peace

105. Upon this magnificent Fatimid majesty!”
“O daughter of the Prophet you have raised my worth

106. By drawing me near to the Most High Kingdom!”
“My death for your protection is trivial to me

107. And this death is the genius’ pride”
My spirit is completely ecstatic with longing

108. To envision among the lights of the Beloved
“Mistress of women! You are more radiant

109. Than Mars in the bright celestial sphere”
“Onto my soul, pour light until

110. I see the dawn in a blissful garden”
“I have made swords out of my poetry

111. That protect the Medinan shrine”
“And I ignited a passion in my heart

112. So guide the fire from my blazing chest!”
“My heart is like Karbala, passionate and warlike

113. And I do not deny the tribulation of Ash-Shafi”
“Are you pleased with that to please

114. The torments of the martyred grandson?”
She said: “You are most worthy of Islam
