1. In my people's homes strangers reside
With no shelter after hospitality

2. Welcome if they're guests, but war if settlers impose
We'll seek justice if they want war

3. Peace if coexistence they choose
Bravery and valor will show from us

4. When clouds cluster or water trickles
God, Islam, and ancestry made it shameful

5. To see an Arab man without pride
We must prepare to face them

6. And forge what heals all harm
Either triumph, justice, and glory

7. Or death's onslaught which brings relief
My people's wishes are in annihilation

8. The wise can offer no escape
All men die, immortality beyond reach

9. As well as pleasures bought with blood
Responding to harm with harm is right

10. But excess evil breeds more evil in turn
The people failed truth when weak

11. Arrogant, they turned away when able
No awe of truth without power

12. To rebuff trespass, weapons leveled
Don't you see the usurping tyrants

13. Who boast of mercy and generosity?
Redressing the oppressed, freeing captives

14. Liberating lands whose people were weak
Yet many nations lament their oppression

15. Their children slaves and bondwomen to them
By your life, these are crafty tricks

16. Mere fox growls bringing jackals to heel
Never trust them, believing their facade

17. For the weak have no protectors
How odd, one who claims justice and piety

18. Yet a veil covers some minds because of him
His tyrannies spread and his sins abound

19. He denies them, bereft of any shame
Say, o liar, if you claim honesty

20. Repent, your self-glory has long endured
Restore the usurped lands to their people Woe to you for the blood and treasure

21. You looted and destruction you left behind
Sparing one lamb for offering, then slaughtering another For this one convulsions, for that one blood pouring

22. You wash hands stained with blood
As if you never held the knife for slaughter

23. Hold yourself back, do not lie about God and creation For after lamentation may come wailing
My nation humbled after glory and splendid

24. Encampments faded, once splendid in luxury
I stood in them looking around, contemplating

25. Their soil and sky causing me torment and pain
My long-dammed tears flowed freely afterward

26. Bringing comfort and solace to my soul
My tears are cheap in my loved ones' homelands

27. But dear in others, even when spurned
Greetings from a wanderer besotted with them

28. Who cherishes their remnants, splendid and resplendent
For loving those who suffered humiliation for them

29. I have a debt and pledge of loyalty to them
Who doesn’t love Arabs yet was raised by them

30. Has no bond with any Arab tribes
Can any people match mine, or their great leaders

31. When nations and luminaries are ranked?
In the highest sphere Muhammad led

32. No women ever birthed the Prophet’s equal
How can I rightly laud the best to walk earth

33. With praise and glory, when words always fall short?
His words and deeds were divinely inspired

34. Confusing the wisest sages and scholars
He called his folk and all peoples earnestly to guidance Illuminating the darkest, gloomiest nights

35. He gave the world a faith and law on which to stand In a language that made eloquence into song
They prayed to God through it, it was His tongue In others, supplications are seldom answered

36. He enjoined pilgrimage, upholding the sanctity That God and Islam bestowed on this refuge
He gathered east and west around it Through it they became like migrant brothers

37. Circling, touching, blessing their faith
They returned leaders, caliphs in his name

38. Calling the name of God and Muhammad
A call that shook the two worlds to their core

39. His law rises above all other creeds
Mere wisdom and cunning compared to it

40. No deeper knowledge than his jurists possessed
From them, all later jurists derived knowledge

41. How many nations thrive thanks to his faith?
How many states were built upon its pillars?

42. How many mosques bring bounty and grace?
With minarets soaring to touch the sky

43. In their shade the earth becomes a heaven
Justice makes it fertile, brotherhood raises crops

44. No faith is more complete than his
A healer’s cure that mended all sickness Adapting to each people’s nature and moods

45. Fulfilling all their different needs
It captivated kings and commoners alike

46. Binding them in Islam’s brotherhood
His noble, pious companions were peerless

47. His blessed supporters were heroes and nobles
The four Rightly Guided Caliphs had virtues

48. And merits that give hope to those in despair
Who can match Abu Bakr in piety and wisdom?

49. When the best leaders and rulers are recounted
Who resembles the Farouq under the caliph’s cloak

50. Heraclius desired it while silk was his cloak
It was draped with purple embroidery

51. Its protection made Arabia his nation’s banner
Once a tyrant, justice made him

52. A father to citizens who enriched the destitute
Who is like Uthman in piety and devotion

53. When the Quran and martyrs are presented as proof?
Who has Ali’s aid and eloquence

54. That leaders and orators long for?
Through him Islam was made firm and Muslims strengthened

55. Cavalry and princes all bowed to him
Nobles gained honor through humility

56. While arrogant enemies were laid low
Where are earth’s giants with them facing off?

57. The great are not visible when giants appear
Words can scarcely do justice describing their leaders’ valor in raids

58. Or the praise they deserve could never suffice
To uphold God’s faith, Khalid bore arms

59. Sword-belts donned by the most courageous
He never returned except triumphant and supported

60. With whole armies ahead of him scattered like dust
Truly he was God’s Sword that struck like his blade

61. Flashing and deadly whenever tested in war
Wounds from his enemies’ weapons were many

62. Leaving them maimed with amputated limbs
He balanced might with restraint, adjudicating fairly For justice is to validate appropriate recompense

63. Befriending the noble is befriending the enemy
Loyalty to the villain is harboring enmity

64. ‘Amr came to Egypt greeted by its people
Saying to the noblest of nobles most high

65. He took them from servitude and misguidance
Faith now their haven, harmony their cloak

66. Ibn Sa’d marched opening the West to guidance
Bearing ease and torment on his two palms

67. When order was stable under his sword
Mercy and prosperity came to the land

68. A caliphate shaded the two continents
The Arab ruled wherever he wished

69. When its protectors wandered from shielding it
Usurpers and upstarts snatched it away

70. External enemies attacked from all groups
My people had no leaders to resist

71. Woe to he who appointed foreigners to rule
Ministers and advisors misleading him

72. He's the king yet only concubines guard him
Ever his most trusted caretakers

73. Had the Abbasids had Umayyad mettle
No usurping fools could have seized power

74. Tomorrow the princely rulers will be their slaves
Debased the Messenger and the Caliphs

75. My people showed cowardice and conflict
An affliction with no comparable affliction

76. Stay your haughtiness, o daughter of Rome
Don't oppress us, we are miserable

77. Our glory is in the past, we ruled half the world
Though tomorrow a shroud will cover it

78. We ruled when truth and power were one
Nobles even while battered and scarred

79. I see every elevated thing threatened with downfall
Every morn overtakes eve in black night

80. Don't gloat in joy, o foreign lady, at our misery
Your people now wield power and might

81. We will live by remembering past glory
The ancient sword still sharp in its sheath

82. We seek what is God and kingship’s right
To heal wandering souls should we meet

83. With the strike of desperation we take vengeance
So a land may welcome us or horizons narrow

84. A battle cry must arise in Arabic
And divine praises where struggle brings union Either victory with enduring glory

85. Or defeat with the most noble dying
This will please our Lord and Prophet

86. Our ancestors too, death no barrier
Can the Arab free man enjoy life settled

87. While humiliation and abuse batter him?
If foreign rule degraded my people

88. Alien chiefs lording as tyrants over them
I'd abandon that land if not my peoples'

89. No free soul can abide the strangers' scorn
In my core an Arab ambition smolders

90. With the stars its abode and the skies its end
With one last Arab cry of "God is Greatest"

91. And "There is no god but God" where struggle commenced Either triumph in which eternal glory is found
Or loss where noble dying is solace
