1. I sighed to kiss her cheek after yearning,
Like the hiss of embers plunging in water.

2. I kissed her until her tears were scattered,
Though my heart sought not to embrace her.

3. Then she who judged my hand at her waist
Became a book there, bound and concealed.

4. She said, "Thus we give, that the dew make you greedy -
Are you not content without your dreams fulfilled?"

5. My lips melted from her burning kiss on them,
And my cheeks flushed like a branch if you shake it, it sheds its leaves.

6. If this was love whose sweetness I never tasted,
Nor its bitter from an ardent lover,

7. I said to her, "The strongest love is the sweetest -
If you were like me in passion, you'd not reproach me."

8. Let me attain what tomorrow won't grant,
And do justice to myself, for time is no justice-maker.

9. Cup and beauty both stint toward the lad -
With a lip's sip or a goblet's draft.

10. At times I see the perils pass, and at others
I yearn for a deep-filled cup made effervescent.

11. I wake not from love save from worries,
While you are but imaginary pictures embellished.

12. For my joy comes my torment, and so
In the shortest hours my regrets are prolonged.
