2. Then it lightened and cleared with a beautiful dawn
As silk unravels from cocoons

3. Warm yet cool she seemed
In the goblet like embers amidst ice

4. She is the blonde, symbol of love in her
And in her glimmer, lies of vows

5. Her aroma like virgins' breaths
When passion overwhelms their chastity

6. And her taste, pour and taste it
To know it in brief benefit

7. She excites lovers with the scent of musk
And a hue of gloom and intense heat

8. And tempts them to misery and wretchedness
With what the English have of the Indians

9. Her old age renewed her youth
Where yesterday became like Hood's era

10. And taught congeniality and equality
So the blackened goblet felt noble

11. Her clarity makes for affinity
And bonding friendships and pledges

12. I have not seen her equal for plentiful living
And ridding hearts of resentment

13. Say to the Muslims, drink it
In the religion of Christians and Jews

14. I fear her temperament in a fragile container
That spills so she has no solidity

15. And her boiling like lightning's warning of thunder
So avoid drinking her and beware her obsession

16. For the immoral are brides of the wicked
The howling of lions over prey is the same

17. She circulated in Abi Nuwas's veins
So she shook the throne of Harun al-Rashid

18. And drew out swords over thrones
Thus maiming the caliphate with al-Walid

19. And Janan tasted her after avoiding her
So she gave freely with talents and gifts

20. Adi excelled in poetry about her
So do not blame her beyond the excellent

21. If the plentifulHabba bubbles over her
I read prose from Abdel Hamid

22. I remembered those who loved her
And death was to them like slumber

23. So I said peace be upon their resting place
And their death, the insightful's wisdom

24. They died drunk and loved
Their death over hating existence

25. To the hidden secret my soul yearns
To settle after shackles are cut

26. And be content with little gain
And decline many promises

27. Its defiance stirred people around me
So it heeded no threat or warning

28. And from Nimrod arrows have targeted me
Thus stirring every stubborn tyrant

29. Never have I wished, in my ignorance,
For a life or death like Labid's

30. I love a short life in amplitude
And don't care for prolonged living

31. So brief is life near evanescence
And so brief is the pigeon near immortality

32. Intoxicate me with goblets, I eat resolutely
Thus experiencing death's swoop

33. And get drunk on an unconsciousness
And enter my paradise of virgins and beauty

34. With flowers strewn under me and over me
And my sleep amidst goblets and promises

35. The strings with a stirring melody
Like the wailing of bereaved at tombs

36. So Saadi's sitting room or garden tempts me
To an era of joy before the loss

37. My drunkenness then death is best for me
For in these two is the solace of the seeker

38. So excellent is death after her intoxication
And saying goodbye to Obayd

39. And in my death through her becomes sweet my living
So through her is my revival after destruction

40. And in my grief, my goblets console me
Like doors of unique pearls

41. I said to him, serve her to me and let us drink her
In spite of the envious and deniers

42. And I will sit among gardens and comforts
And uncover goblets over roses

43. And plant a heaven and erect a palace
Over the ruins of Aad or Thamud

44. Al-Muslim's white nights, so in them
Al-Mujasim's daughter seduced al-Walid's son

45. In Jurjan his glory waned a little
So he did not care for the mail's work

46. He longed for his palm tree forlorn when
He saw safety for the outcast in wine

47. So many a night it shows me
Wandering, tracking the wanderer's trace

48. Dew wet my hair and clothes
And my hair like jewels in necklaces

49. The full moon shone between its sides
Tempting me to tranquil stillness

50. To her I traversed alley after alley
With my heart burning hot as ember

51. And when I entered her house she saw me
Dizzy as though drunk on frost

52. She removed smoke from her cheek's fire
And showed its redness from beneath blackness

53. And said, as the scarf was on her hands
I said, the fire disagreed with me, and I

54. Am a Magus who prostrates in prayer
I see your breasts as royal orchestra

55. For one greater than Hisham or Yazid
If I touched them with my hands and caressed

56. My forehead or sang like al-Walid
With your rejection I am more rejected

57. So I hide the whispering of my innermost thoughts
I will not desist, and surely I will take it

58. From the precious unique pearl
Adam did not fear death when

59. He plucked the apple from red cheeks
And when her cheek reddened and shone

60. With clarity on the lips, evidence of passion
I hugged her figure with my glance

61. Until her head touched the carotid vein
And I almost kissed coral until

62. I saw a pearl more precious than unique
From her folds rose her perfume

63. And in her breaths, burning aloeswood
She served me a drink from a goblet and mouth

64. And granted me with excellent recital
I enjoyed her gift for the melody

65. If she sang I'd say to her repeat
Thus a beloved sang, and favor

66. Is with al-Mutawakkil and Sa'eed
She delighted Hijaz with her grasshoppers

67. Singing happily for plentiful living
And when the chest of night split with hatred

68. At one delighting in it, relaxed
I sniffed the breeze so it revived me

69. Zephyrs of coolness healing the sick at heart
And morning met me like a yearning

70. That rang and smiled to a loving one
So I set out to promenade in gardens

71. Suspended on sturdy mountains
To fill my mind with light, vitality,

72. And fragrance in a shaded sanctuary
I emerged finding my hopes in it

73. With the splitting dawn, renewing and repeating
And my riding beast is only a rocking one

74. Dearer to me than the reserved camel
How the swaying sedges bent

75. And the blowing of its breeze walked steadily
In them the winds blew and drank to fullness

76. Like a nation looking upon delegations
So a rustling or burbling delighted me

77. Of water in the small dunes and hillocks
Sometimes it flowed gurgling and other times

78. It bubbled from the rock's rigid cavity
Then twittered a gentle bird

79. Teaching me the art of singing
And sang a trill captivating my heart

80. As though it composed the lines of poetry
I said, repeat your singing, oh Meaningful One

81. And I'm not inclined to any other repetition
Whether it's us, the warbling is a poem

82. So twitter for the splendid excellent one
Or else you placed the like of me among a tribe

83. Whose neighborhood I share but gain no benefit
My being a neighbor was but captivity

84. And my poems like clanking of chains
So I stayed free and flew free, for death

85. Is the free one's life between the enslaved
The tongue of birds I understand so my soul

86. Is like souls of birds housed
I complained to you though complaining is solace

87. For how slight are affectionate friends from hostile ones
I see you pecking at chicks and pecking

88. Reminding me of every feast and celebration
An olive tree leaned affectionately making a home and nest for you
