1. What I hope for myself is to be wary of,
And what I desire, I find death in it.

2. How little is safety from death,
How little is the noble from the vile.

3. The corruption of people comes from righteousness,
So how much good has harmed its doer.

4. Religion is corrupted by its shepherds,
And Islamic law is corrupted by the jurist.

5. I excuse people, since vileness is their nature,
And I have the patience of the forbearing with the foolish.
