1. The secret of love's secret is well known
So why would I conceal it?

Neither cloak nor finery

4. The soul of a lover is aflame
So among souls it kindles fires

5. Its being burns in the heat of passion
Thus its breaths are sparks

6. The sea of love has hidden depths
And only diving saves from its peril

7. So for my malady it was a risk I took
Since my cure was in that risk

8. So it made me a king whom angels obey
And before whom monarchs bow down

9. A magnificent king whose majesty
Dazzles sights that behold his light

10. The One by whom lessons are made clear
For people to take wisdom from

11. A generous king who, but for his grace,
Would have no bounty or trace

12. Neither earth nor mountain nor sea
Nor river would exist but for He

13. Nor the essence of air, nor the fire
In the atmosphere above made to dwell

14. No star seen forever and ever
In the expanse of space unfurled

15. Neither fixed stars nor planets
When fate counts the rounds they plod

16. Nor any soul stirred to motion
To grasp things or let them slip by

17. Nor angels ascending on high
Or descending by His decree

18. His essential knowledge is generous
Every kindness pours forth from His rain

19. His essence in benefaction is a hand
Whose goodwill universally reigns

20. It is a face in beauty, for lo
Before it intellects are blinded in awe

21. Perfect in every perfection
So minds cannot rise in depicting its height

22. My words fail in praise of You, O You
By whom the eulogizer is made proud

23. So in apology I stand mute
Excuse those who rise in regret

24. These words are so deficient
How can mortals speak Your glory?
