1. O sons of valor, is there no glorious one among you?
Indeed, valor is so rare among you!

2. Oh, woe to your mothers! Woe to your fathers!
Woe that echoes among you with weeping and anguish!

3. You provoked Hassân in his sharpness of mind,
Woe to him who sired the long lineage of valor!

4. You seek help from them out of wretchedness,
So gather yourselves - the despised are despised!

5. Do not grieve that you are ascribed to your fathers,
For cowardice remains while mountains pass away.

6. The sons of Ziyâd - their warriors did not birth them!
And the sons of Salâma - their heroes are preoccupied!

7. An old billy goat slipped by you, very much deeply-rooted!
Why does the hyena not turn you away?

8. Cowardice has befallen Al-Himâs, so they have
No elderly man who darkens nor spirited youth!
